This initiative was based on the Stewardship of Antimicrobials for Veterinarians Initiative (SAVI), led by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and funded in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) via the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) programme and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The CVMA version of Firstline provides antimicrobial guidelines for a broader range of species. Canadian veterinary personnel can access that version through the Firstline platform.

Initial support for the Firstline veterinary antimicrobial stewardship initiative was coordinated by the University of Calgary, with funding provided through the AMR - One Health Consortium, funded by the Major Innovation Fund (MIF) program of the Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Innovation (JEI), Government of Alberta, and with partially matched funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

These OVC/CPHAZ guidelines are funded by the Ontario Veterinary College Dean’s Office and the University of Guelph’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses.
